Teacher Assistant Job Opening

Charlotte Adventist Christian School is seeking to hire a part-time Teacher’s Assistant. The position starts at $14 per hour for 20 hours weekly (M-Th). The ideal candidate would not only possess an understanding of working with children grades K-8 but also exude a passionate commitment to Adventist education. Candidates should be strong Seventh-day Adventists in good and regular standing. They should be passionate about bringing students to Christ daily and equipping them to be missionaries for Him (see our school website for a full job description: www.cac.school). Description 

The teacher assistant’s work includes supervision of students, clerical tasks, and assistance with academic activities. The assistant is accountable to the principal/teacher. Assigned duties may include things such as: 
  • Supervising lunch periods
  • Assisting with field trips or school programs 
  • Assisting with art lessons, science fairs, displays, bulletin boards, and celebrations 
  • Preparing materials for art projects, science labs, and other classes 
  • Grading/correcting student work 
  • Supervising recess 
  • Helping an injured or sick child 
  • Assisting with safety drills and/or emergencies 
  • Answering student questions 
  • Reading to students during storytime 
  • Listening as students read aloud 
  • Assisting with classroom activities 
  • Drilling students on basic facts 
  • Supervising students in the library, using computers, etc. 
  • Ordering and purchasing supplies 
  • Using the computer to enter student information and grades, type newsletters, etc.
  • Making copies, collating materials  
  • Maintaining records 
  • Answering the telephone 
  • Supervising students who are doing classroom chores 
  • Performing other duties assigned by the teacher or principal

    Typical Working Conditions: The teacher assistant is subject to working in a generally well-lighted and ventilated classroom/school environment for the majority of the time while the remainder of the time is spent supervising students on field trips, outside, or in the gymnasium.
    Typical Physical Demands: The job requires a full range of body motion including sitting, standing,  walking, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting weights up to 45 pounds and reaching cupboards, bulletin and whiteboards. The job also requires adequate hearing and vision.
    Typical Mental/Emotional Demands: The teacher assistant must be able to work in a fast-paced environment; perform duties under pressure; meet deadlines on time, take directions from supervisors; exercise a high degree of problem-solving skills; and interact with students, parents, other staff members and the general public in a professional, pleasant, and Christ-like manner.
    Types of Tools, Vehicles, Equipment, Machinery, and Materials Used: The teacher assistant must be able to operate at a reasonable level of competency, equipment common to a school such as a computer, copy machine, paper cutter, DVD player, television monitor, telephone, as well as tools such as brooms, dust pans, and mops, etc.
